Can anyone tell me how you pronounce the Irish boys name Taicligh?
No guesses please (I can do that) - only answer if you actually know.
Irish baby name - Taicligh?
I had never seen this name before, so I did a little research. I believe it is a mispelling of the Irish (Gaelic) form of the surnames Tully or Tally. Tully and Tally seem to come from the Irish name "脫 Taithligh". The closest I can come to writing how it would be pronounced "Ta-hlig" (with the "h" not silent).
I personally would not name someone that. For a start, it's a surname, and I would hazard a guess that pretty much nobody in Ireland has this as a first name. Tadhg is a much nicer and more common name that's a little similar. The "adh" is pronounced the same as the word "eye", so it's like "Tygue".
Reply:I have to agree with the first answer. This is not a name I'm familiar with, or even a spelling that appears to be Irish.
I'd have to say I'm with her in assuming it a random misspelling of Tully (though I'm more familiar with the Tuathal derivation, with Tully a common nickname form), or possibly Turlough/Turlach (TUR-la) or Tierney (TEER-nee), or an elaboration of Tadhg (TIEG, like the beginning syllable of tiger).
