Ciara?
Is it REALLY popular, or is it semi-popular, or not well known at all in Ireland?
How Irish Is The Name...?
Yeah it's pretty popular, just to think off the top of my head i know 5 Ciara's !!!
Nice name.
Reply:I've heard it often. Where do you live in the US? Just like Colm and Conan, it's a regular name in Irish neighborhoods due to Irish parents.
The US doesn't pronounce all the C's in names like K's as the Irish do, so that's where they go wrong with the pronunciation. It's like mispronouncing Jesus as Gee-sus rather than Hay-zeus in a latino neighborhood, which is common mistake non Spanish speakers make.
Reply:Ciara pronounced with a K sound, not an S sound, this is Irish. It's been a reasonably popular name for decades, and is the female form of the name Ciaran.
Reply:It is semi-popular, more-so in the last 25 years or so. I know alot of Ciaras who range in ages from 2-24. It's never a top 10 name in Ireland, but I'd say in the top 200 or so...
Reply:I visit schools frequently on business. Every class has at least one Ciara, and often more than one. So it is a popular name.
Reply:It's pretty common. I know four or five Ciaras. By the way, it's pronounced the same as Keira Knightley, rather than with a soft C.
Reply:It's a pretty popular name here, sure I have 2 cousin Ciara's, And I know a few as well.
Reply:it is very popular, I know 5, without even thinking too hard about it.
Reply:Very Popular. In fact, my wife's name is Ciara.
Reply:its quite popular
Reply:Quite common but we pronounce it Key-ra which Americans don't seem to do.
