Its Irish. Oddly enough, in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, a member of the Irish Quiddich team has the last name Quigley.
What kind of name is the last name Quigley? (English, Irish, Scottish, etc.)?
I know it is often Irish, because it's a family line I've been researching. I hope that helps...
Some say it was originally O'Quigley, and it means "unkempt hair". Silly. Mine were from county Cork, I believe.
Reply:Whats the matter with you Shirley T, you always post your warning against "coat of arms" peddlars, if you look at the links that people put up there is more often than not much more info than you put up for people, about there name. so take a chill woman people might want the coat of arms as well. if it bothers you so much why dont you try and get the so called offenders stopped from putting peddling coat of arms on line. then when youve done that tell everyone on here who wants these things "thats really bad dont ask about your name if you think you have a coat of arms"
Reply:It's just another surname like any other until you or someone in your family does the research to identify the individuals of each generation back over time, history and geography.
Reply:See attached line regard peddlers selling surname products like coat of arms. They are merchants of deceit.

Anglicized form of O'Coigligh meaning descendant of Coigligh.
They sell them on the internet because if they sold them without first explaining that it might not have anything to do with your family through the U. S. Mail, they could be charged with mail fraud. Actually, there might be more than one for Quigley, but they will only have the one as that is all the need to sell to people who do not understand their use. The family history that is with them might be yours and might not.
The best thing to do is to trace your family starting with your parents and working back.
All too often a surname can come from many different nationalities. Any time you wish to trace your name, there are people on this board that can give you advice and ideas.
Just ask.
Reply:My source says it's Irish as well, have a look at the link I have posted for you.
