Irish accent with the name Simon - Does it go together or is he lying?

A guy I met has a thick Irish accent and claims his name is Simon.


I have cause to believe that he is not the most trustworthy of people. (Will explain why if I get a good answer)


My question is, is Simon really a name an Irishman would have?

These days, there aren't too many names that are confined to culture. TV and the internet have brought alternatives to parents and you know how women are. Yeah, there might be a Simon Irishman, and a Ryker and a Dillon and a Hideo, too.
Reply:Yes. Im from Ireland and i know 5 guys called Simon.
