Brit's and Irish. Without going to Google, do you know the name of your MEP?

It strikes me that not many of us do and yet they are supposed to be discussing and voting on our welfare. Is this lack of profile deliberate? What do you think?

The lack of profile is due to the introduction of the list system, which makes MEPs much less accountable because they now share huge swathes of the electorate, rather than being directly elected by geographically defined constituencies.

Why bother, we have no say in anything anyway.


Used to care about politics in my 20's and 30's now approaching 60 have learnt better.


Have never missed voting at all elections including local, but will not bother next time.


Does not seem to matter who, or what party we just get taxed to death anyway. local tax, income tax, european grants, you name the british will pay it without protest. Why ?
Reply:Where I used to live, our MEP was a stereo-typical corrupt fat-cat Conservative, who an acquaintance (he was very Tory!) was disgusted to see still hold a position of power, after embezzling over 3,000,000 pounds from a childrens' charity, and merely paying it back when he was caught - mysteriously, charges were never filed and he was never hauled through the courts!
Reply:It'll be some upper class woman , probably with a lesbian partner. Oh, sorry, that's the prospective Conservative candidate. The sitting MP is just an upper class woman. Plenty of choice there, then. Dunno about the MEP. Mmmm, let's think.
Reply:Not a chance, i don't even know what they do, everything that seems to come out of european government is composed by idiots, its no wonder they do not advertise names.

I have voted in the European elections several times and I always look it up - but obviously I am not interested enough to retain the name.
Reply:I don't know and I'm not sure I want to because as with most politicians their only agenda is their self and what they can get out of the position.
