Idk my dad but my mom says he is Bahamian and that he lived there most of his life. How come he has an Irish last name?

Im black but my last name is Irish?
I know someone who's Irish and his last name is Black.
Reply:Names have no concern with colours. Enjoy you name if good, change if horrible.
Reply:A lot of Irish convicts would have been sent to colonies such as the Bahamas in the 18th century. It's possible your dad is descended from one of these people.
Reply:probably was the slavemaster's last name.........i have an english lastname and my people are from trinidad..........which black person these days(except africans) have their true lastnames.........NONE!!!
Reply:You are American -born, You are most likely a descendant of slaves in America. Slaves were mixed with many other races in America. Your genetic gene-pool is from a multitude of many nations, which is also a reason for the shades of color in Black Americans from the "High Yellow to the Ebony Black". You and all Black Americans are a mixture of all nations. My last name came from an infamous, English Pirate who sailed the Caribbeans. Research your family tree and have fun!
Reply:idunno but my cousin's grandpa is panamanian w/a french last name also, i think it goes to way back u probably have a french ancestor in there somewhere..
Reply:The name could be inherited from ancestors; possibly adopted from slave owners; could have been adopted from place names. The Bahamas were a British Crown colony, a place early Americans immigrated to and from, a US Confederate smuggling route during the US Civil War, a smuggling route during the US Prohibition of alcohol...
Reply:better a black irish then a red irish
