I was born in Oklahoma, my father was born in Kansas. I was adopted and I would like to trace my tree back to our country of origin. I'm tired of just considering myself a mutt. Can anyone help me find myself?

Get your Birth Certificate. Get your adoption records! Is it your real father that was born in Kansas? You can request his Birth Certificate, find his Death Certificate, and research his family. These vital records give great information that can be used to trace backward in time. Your fathers place of death, birth all give clues. Birth Certificates give parents, his parents are your grandparents and their place of birth will be given in his Birth Certificate. Find all you can for vital records.

Reply:Well, you've answered your own question, really. If you're wanting to trace your actual line, instead of the name line, you're out of luck, at least until 2067. All records are sealed for 100 years, in most cases. You can probably go get his birth certificate, though. You just have to prove you're his son. With the info you've provided, I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate. That would at least give you date and place of birth, and his parents' names. Go online to the site for the State he was born. They'll have a section for Vital Records, if it's anything like any other State site. It will tell you how to go about getting what you need. It may have a form to print out to get records. It usually does cost, but no more than $20, normally only $10.





But trying genealogy this close to present, is bloody near impossible, because of the whole privacy thing.
